Institute of Information Technology |
The Institute of Information Technology (IIT) started functioning with the admission of the first batch of Masters Students in the summer of 2003. The main objective of the Institute is to contribute to the critical mass of an information technology workforce in order to meet the growing need of a fast expanding economy in the rapidly globalizing world. The Institute is committed to providing a learning experience of excellence to a diverse group of students at affordable cost. In addition to quality teaching, the IIT is working on plans to start a world class research program through the award of MS and PhD degrees. Most important, the focus will be on linkages with private sector industry, public sector organizations and the non-government sector. It is guided by the consensus that IT is a tool to achieve efficiency and improve effectiveness of operations and delivery in almost all spheres of academic as well as practical life. IIT is focusing upon acquisition and propagating of cutting edge technologies. Recognizing the fact that Information Technology is having a profound impact upon almost every aspect of human activity and changing the shape of our future, we retain our focus, for the time being on producing IT professionals by running two-year Masters Program. The student body represents all areas of Pakistan. IIT is in the process of bringing some innovative changes in its academic programs which will not only reflect a rich blend of both applied and theoretical aspects of computation but will also support much research and development keeping in view the significance of writing and other forms of communication as well as market demand. There were many challenges and difficulties in making progress toward the introduction of qualified people, sophisticated Labs, state-of-the-art technologies, well equipped library, proper maintenance and the unknowns involved in any pioneering project. Efforts are underway to recruit well-qualified faculty and supportive staff. This avenue would naturally and seamlessly lead to a civil society with knowledge driven economy. |
